Paula Finlay is a contemporary visual artist based in the Midlands. Working mainly in oils, she paints still life compositions and landscapes. Finlay has painted since the 1980s when she was a winner at the Texaco Children’s Art Competition and has studied extensively under artists living in the area, including Mark O’Neill who has been a major influence on her work. In 1997 and 1998 she had two exhibitions in the Tullamore Court Hotel, and built on this early success to establish a reputation as a well-known local artist. From 1999 to 2014, while raising her four children, she worked mainly on commissioned pieces for public and private collectors. Recently, she has been able to devote more time to her art, and her work has been selected to show at the Birr Vintage Week and Arts Festival. One of her paintings was presented to the principal of Seton Catholic High School in Chandler, Arizona, as part of an educational and cultural exchange. Her paintings often been awarded as prizes, including the Captain’s Prize in Tullamore Golf Club. She has work in both public and private collections, including that of the former Taoiseach, Brian Cowen.
